Volkswagen is working to move on from the diesel emissions scandal and is refocusing their United States sales efforts on the popular SUV market. The car manufacturer revealed the most recent iteration of their compact SUV, the Tiguan, at the North American International Auto Show.
The entirely upgraded Tiguan is getting longer and more capable for 2018 with features made to particularly interest American purchasers.
Based upon Volkswagen Group’s modular MQB vehicle architecture– discovered under the Audi A3, TT, Q3 and upcoming 2018 Q5 in addition to the Volkswagen Golf, Passat and upcoming 2018 Atlas– the brand-new 2018 Tiguan remains in exceptional company.
Better yet, we get the long-wheelbase version of the Tiguan, the one specifically developed for Americans. It boasts a 4.4-inch wheelbase stretch to guarantee that U.S. market customers find it enticing.
Defining the 2018 Tiguan’s sharpened styling as “clean and timeless style,” Volkswagen says the brand-new SUV is broader, lower, and a whopping 10.7 inches longer than the outgoing model. Depending on the model, LED lighting lights up the course forward, and the top trim level is provided with mighty enticing aluminum wheels.
Inside, the Tiguan’s materials and surface area patterns develop a premium appearance, and thanks to the SUV’s extended wheelbase and bodywork, it accommodates as much as 7 travelers in three rows of seats.
The third-row seat is basic in Tiguans with front-wheel drive and is a choice in Tiguans with all-wheel drive. A 40/20/40-split folding second-row seat likewise slides forward and back to make more room for passengers and freight.
Boasting a 57 percent increase in cargo room, the brand-new Tiguan is much roomier inside than before. Doing the math based upon present Tiguan measurements, the new SUV should hold more than 37 cubic feet of cargo behind its second-row seat. The liftover height is lower, too, alleviating the pain of loading heavy products.
Under the hood is an updated version of Volkswagen’s turbocharged and direct-injected 2.0-liter TSI engine, making 184 horsepower and 221 pound-feet of torque and mating with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is basic and 4Motion all-wheel drive with Active Control is optional and features 4 selectable traction modes.
The supersized Tiguan will release in Europe in the second half of 2017, where it will be called the Tiguan Allspace and sell for about 30,000 euros along with the much shorter model. In U.S., it’ll simply be the 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan. Pricing and schedule need to be within a comparable window, but have not yet been finalized or revealed.
